Supporting Indigenous Representation
At IFIP. supporting Indigenous Peoples plays a vital role in advocating for Indigenous representation in policy spaces and nurturing their engagement in advocacy at all levels. Through partnerships with Indigenous organizations and networks, we amplify Indigenous voices, provide advocacy resources, and support their representation in decision-making bodies to advance Indigenous rights globally.
Why It Matters
Ensuring the representation of Indigenous Peoples in policy spaces and advocacy efforts is paramount for creating inclusive and equitable societies worldwide. Our commitment to supporting Indigenous representation not only amplifies Indigenous voices but also empowers communities to advocate for their rights and priorities effectively within the philanthropy landscape. By facilitating Indigenous Peoples' participation in decision-making bodies and international advocacy efforts, IFIP helps to push for greater recognition and protection of Indigenous rights on the global stage.
Our Work
IFIP raises awareness among our community and networks about Indigenous issues, histories, and rights while advocating for policies that promote Indigenous rights, cultural preservation, land rights, and sustainable development. We support Indigenous Peoples' representation in decision-making bodies, such as advisory councils, boards, committees, and other positions of power in both private and public spaces.
Â
IFIP also mobilizes support to ensure Indigenous Peoples' representation at global and philanthropic forums. Notably, IFIP has supported Indigenous women in engaging in international advocacy efforts to highlight Indigenous Peoples' rights on the global stage, including participation in UN forums, conventions such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and human rights mechanisms. These efforts contribute to greater recognition and protection of Indigenous rights worldwide.
