Influencing Philanthropy
IFIP's influence in reshaping Indigenous philanthropy transcends mere action; it embodies a powerful commitment to justice, equity, and empowerment. With unwavering dedication, we ignite a flame of hope, inspiring philanthropic landscapes to embrace transparency, inclusivity, and the voices of Indigenous Peoples. Together with our community, we stand at the forefront of change to create a future where every act of giving echoes the sentiments of “The Five R’s of Indigenous Philanthropy” —Respect, Reciprocity, Responsibility, Relationships and Redistribution.
Why It Matters
At the heart of IFIP's mission lies the urgent call to Influence Philanthropy, for within this endeavor lies the key to unlocking the untapped potential of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. From the resilient Indigenous Youth overcoming systemic barriers and marginalization in a modern world to the steadfast Indigenous Women reclaiming their rightful place in society, Indigenous communities face unique challenges on their journey towards empowerment.
As we work to uplift and amplify their voices through our diverse working groups, we plant the seeds of change, not only within Indigenous communities but throughout the world. For when Indigenous Peoples are empowered, the entire global community benefits, enriched by their wisdom, heritage, and unwavering resilience.
Through collaborative efforts with funders and all stakeholders involved, we pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future where the voices and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples resonate loud and clear, shaping a world that honors diversity, equity, and justice for all.
What we are doing
IFIP is at the forefront of influencing philanthropy to unlock the untapped potential of Indigenous Peoples globally. Through its diverse working groups, IFIP tackles the multifaceted challenges faced by Indigenous communities, empowering them to reclaim their rightful place in society. The Indigenous Youth Voice working group focuses on overcoming systemic barriers and marginalization, providing platforms for youth empowerment and amplifying their voices in policy spaces. Simultaneously, the Indigenous Women and Aunties in Philanthropy Working Groups work to uplift and support Indigenous women, recognizing their pivotal role in driving positive change within their communities and beyond.
Additionally, our efforts extend to supporting Indigenous communities through various initiatives to educate funders and relevant stakeholders. The Regional Convenings and Global Conference and the Indigenous Philanthropy Institute among other working groups have had a significant impact on how grant makers support Indigenous Movements. By collaborating with funders and stakeholders, IFIP has created a path towards a more inclusive philanthropic landscape that honors diversity, equity, and justice for all. Through strategic advocacy, capacity-building programs, and knowledge-sharing platforms, IFIP catalyzes transformative change, ensuring that Indigenous Peoples' voices and aspirations resonate loud and clear, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
Beyond our conferences, IFIP's influence and expertise extend through strategic partnerships with our philanthropic community members and other relevant stakeholders. Collaborating closely with organizations like the Edge Funders Alliance, Council on Foundations, Environmental Grantmakers Association, and International Human Rights Funders Group, we collectively shape the future of Indigenous philanthropy.
